वसन्त नवरात्रि का अन्तिम दिन: कन्याओं का भोज

हमारी तरफ़ उत्तर प्रदेश मे प्रथा है कि वसन्त नवरात्रि के अन्तिम दिन अर्थात राम नवमी (उसी दिन होती है) के दिन ९ कन्याओं की पूजा की जाती है और उन्हे खाना खिलाया जाता हैं।

The Vasant (वसन्त) or Spring Navratri (नवरात्रि) is widely observed in Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand (Uttaranchal), Haryana, Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir. Most Hindu devotees in this part of India undertake Navratri Vrat or fasting. The festival occurs during the beginning of summer season. And it is said that the fasting helps in adapting the body to the changing climate.

Some of the important Temple fairs in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand are organized during this period.

Almost all the rituals observed during Navratri (held in October-November) are also observed during Vasant Navrati.

One of the important events in Haryana and Punjab is the worshipping of little girls. These little girls symbolically represent Goddess Durga (दुर्गा) and are known as ‘kanjaks कञ्जका.’ It is performed on the eighth day or the Ashtami (अष्टमी) day.

देश के विभिन्न भागों मे इस रीति मे थोड़ा बहुत अन्तर भी है, जैसे कि पण्जाब और हरियाणा में।

इस वर्ष का शरद कालीन नवरात्र ३० सितम्बर से ८ अक्टूबर २००८ तक मनाया जायेगा।

ऊपर के चित्र मे 'आयुश पाण्डेय', इन्होने अपनी साज सज्जा तो कन्याओं की तरह करवा ली लेकिन दुपट्टा ओढ़ना पसन्द नही आया।
